Grange Insurance Audubon Center is located in an Important Bird Area (IBA) situated on the Mississippi Flyway. An Important Bird Area is an area identified using an internationally agreed set of criteria as being globally important for the conservation of bird populations. The IBA program was founded by BirdLife Interantional and then implemented across the United States by Audubon and local partners.
The Scioto-Greenlawn IBA is a three-mile riparian corridor that includes Scioto Audubon Metro Park, Greenlawn Cemetary, and Berliner Park. This IBA has had more species of birds recorded than any other stretch of the Scioto River, with at least 212 historically accounted for. The area provides habitat for a number of high-priority species that utilize riparian corridors such as Northern Pintail, Osprey, and Prothonotary Warblers.
