ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
CONVERGENCE: ART AND ECOLOGY
AN ART EXHIBITION BY THE WORTHINGTON AREA ART LEAGUE
OPENING RECEPTION: MAY 16, 6PM-7:30PM
ART AND ENVIRONMENTAL PANEL DISCUSSION: JUNE 20, 6PM-8PM
Inspired by area ecological projects, the Worthington Area Art League presents a collection of artwork that responds to the changes being brought to our environment. Member artists were asked to select a Central Ohio ecological organization, project, or initiative and create a unique work of art in response. Over 50 works of art address ecological initiatives taking place right here in Central Ohio. Topics range from celebrating Metro Parks to conservation efforts being made toward birds and bees, and a poignant look at green burial. With this exhibit, the Worthington Area Art League hopes to reinforce the value of these initiatives while fostering conversations about how best to support our environment.
COMMENTS FROM PARTICPATING MEMBERS.....
"I am working on a wildflower prairie painting based on photos I took at the green burial cemetery at the Kokosing Nature Preserve. I was moved to find out more about green burial when a friend told me about her experience burying a family member in a wicker casket, in a meadow, under a tree. I was spurred to research the practice and ended up at the forty-five acre Kokosing Nature Preserve Cemetery in Gambier, Ohio. It is a beautiful and peaceful place. Their practices of burial and maintaining prairie plants sustain the soil, insects and wildlife that thrive in a natural environment."

"I am inspired by the natural environment of the Columbus Metro Parks. They are the “gems” of the city and surrounding areas. All of these parks are accessible and free to the public and provide a much needed physical and mental oasis for our fast-paced lives."
