Outdoor fun includes guided hikes and scavenger hunts, fishing trips and field adventures, and lots of opportunities to unplug and connect with nature in the great outdoors.  Kids can feel the mud ooze between their toes in the wetland, listen to birds in the forest, catch and release butterflies and dragonflies in the fields and fish along the Scioto River.  Outdoor educators help them connect with the natural world and discover the amazing animals and insects all around us.

Sisters Exhibit Art and Photography at GIAC: On Display Until July 31st, 2013

Anne Balogh grew up on a horse farm in Ohio in a household that valued art. Her father is an architect, so Anne began drawing with him as soon as she could hold a drawing tool in her hand. She has been involved in art classes, organizations, and competitions since grade school. Her love of art is balanced by interest in nature and wildlife, and Anne majored in environmental science and minored in studio art. She has a BS from Allegheny College and an MS from Towson University. Anne is the conservation manager at the GIAC by day and an artist by night! She gets a lot of inspiration for artwork from nature, surroundings and my experiences as a biologist. She also enjoys exploring the human face and figure, and paints custom portraits from photos. Anne chose the name Catbird Seat Studio for two reasons. The first, she did a lot of graduate research on the Gray Catbird, a wonderful, quirky bird. The second, the phrase "sitting in the catbird seat" means you are sitting pretty or in a good place. This probably originated from observations that catbirds sit in the highest places in their territory to sing. Anne feels she is working towards that good place and looks forward to the challenge of tackling new projects and ideas.

If interested in a painting or print, or in a custom portrait, please feel free to contact Anne with any questions. Annbalogh@aol.com

Anne and her husband also make custom, whimsical Potbellies ornaments and mobiles. www.potbellies.etsy.com

Jenna Balogh grew up on a small horse farm in Richfield Ohio. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Studio Art from Allegheny College in Meadville Pennsylvania. At 14 she bought her first manual film camera. Throughout high school and college, she spent many hours in the darkroom. Although her true love is film photography, she has been shooting primarily in digital the last few years. Her subject matter varies, but nature continues to be a huge influence in Jenna's work and life. She feels that by paying close attention to the world around her, even the ordinary can be transformed into extraordinary. She is passionate about encouraging others to appreciate and connect with nature, and believes that photography is an excellent way to truly evoke feelings of wonder, appreciation and excitement for the natural world. Jenna has had work displayed at the Penelec and Megahan Galleries at Allegheny College and galleries in Frostburg, MD. Recently Jenna completed a course in wedding photography through The University of Akron. She also sells her work on Etsy. Travel is very important to her and she is sure to never leave her camera behind. Many of her photos come from adventures in New Zealand, Wyoming, Scotland, road trips across the USA- many also come from adventures very close to home! Jenna recently moved to Frostburg, MD and is pursuing a Master's degree at FSU and working with Evergreen Heritage Center to develop an Environmental Art program.
