Wednesday Director’s Tour - every Wednesday

Join us at 10AM each Wednesday as Director Heather Starck and Education Director Chris Kline guide participants through the LEED Certified Grange Insurance Audubon Center and the surrounding landscape.  No tour September 30.

Storytime and Nature Art – Saturdays 1:00 – 2:00 PM

Younger members of the family will especially enjoy themselves as we combine a storybook from our library with a walk, art project, or puppet show.  No Storytime November 21 and December 26.

Admission: Members - $3; Non-members - $5

Also come enjoy Storytime on Sundays October 11 & 25, November 15 and December 13 at 1:00 PM.

Friday Lunch Special – Fridays at Noon starting October 9 thru November 13

Bring a brown bag and enjoy a 40 minute talk on various natural history topics ranging from scary creatures of the Southwest deserts to local conservation topics to world-wide travel.  Call Chris at 614-545-5486 for a detailed schedule.

Use Grange Insurance Audubon Center as the excuse to get away with your special someone, without the kids!  Find a sitter and join us for an evening of Owl Calling.  Sure to be a Hoot!

Fall Color Walk: Touch the Rainbow! – Saturday October 10, 10 AM

Join GIAC Director of Education Chris Kline as he explores the woody plants that call the Whittier Peninsula home.  Fall color will be setting in, so this walk should be especially colorful.  Wear comfortable shoes as some walking will be required.

Fall Planting: Why to Start a New Routine – Saturday October 10, 1-3 PM

Fall is not just a good time to plant trees and shrubs, but is actually the best time.  Come find out how planting in the fall can give your plants a “branch” up on the competition!

Migration Madness – Saturday October 17, 10 AM

Join GIAC staff and volunteers as they seek out our feathered friends as travel south to overwintering grounds in Central and South America .  The Center is located in the heart of the Scioto River-Greenlawn Important Bird Area, an area known for its bird diversity.  Wear comfortable shoes as some walking will be required.

Winterize Your Landscape – Saturday October 24, 10 AM – Noon

GIAC Director of Education and former landscaper Chris Kline will provide guidance in preparing your landscape for the impending snow and cold.  Remember, the preparations you take now will pay benefits in the spring.

Date Night – Friday November 6, 7:00 – 8:30 PM

Spend the evening staring at the stars with your favorite person as we use the telescopes to make sense of the night sky.  Leave the kids with a sitter for this activity.

Admission: Members - $15 per couple; Non-members - $20 per couple

Take $2 off the admission price with the donation of two non-perishable food items.  Food donations will go to local food pantries.

A Guide to Nature's Music: How to Learn the Songs and Calls of Your Favorite Birds – Tuesday November 10, 7:30 – 9:30 PM

Does it seem that each Spring you have to re-learn all your bird songs again? While some of us have finally learned the Eastern Towhee's "Drink-Your-Tea" song, many people struggle with learning the vocalizations of a wider array of bird species such as the Blackburnian Warbler. On November 10th at 7:30 pm, local author and ornithologist John C. Robinson will share the step-by-step system he has used for learning bird songs throughout the world for over 30 years. Meet at Grange Insurance Audubon Center

Date Night – Friday December 4, 7:00 – 8:30 PM

Our December Date Night will start with a short presentation discussing the conservation projects that GIAC is spearheading throughout central Ohio.  Afterwards, we’ll ask you to pick a name off of our Christmas tree to purchase presents for children at a local community center.

Leaving the Leaves Behind: A Fool-Proof Method of Winter Tree Identification – Saturday December 5, 2:00 – 4:00 PM

Now that those confusing leaves are gone, tree identification is easy and fun.  Join GIAC Education Director Chris Kline as we learn how to identify trees by their buds, bark, and smell using his Tree Wheels.  You will never look at dormancy the same way again!
